Simulating an Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifier (EDFA)

We modeled EDFA and calculated what should be the optimum length of the fiber in this research.

Results:
- Increasing the length of EDFA up to a certain value increases the gain, and thus, the output power.
- Loss and noise are also key parameters in determining the optimal length.
- After a certain length, the gain saturates; however, noise and loss increase.
- Our model shows that the optimal length for EDFA is 6 m with a noise figure of 3.58 dB.
